McLeodGaming would openly admit suggestions for content creators on their social networks. The program was retired on with the official release of SSF2 Beta. Qualifications for the program were fairly strict and included having at least 10,000 subscribers on YouTube. This was to prevent the average public from applying merely to obtain an early build of the game without being able or willing to contribute in return.Ĭontent creators were restricted to show a limited amount of content from the game in order to avoid leaks or unwanted reveals. As the purpose of the program was largely to introduce new audiences to Super Smash Flash 2 rather than to keep existing fans updated, most videos do not involve any new content that had not been previously announced or revealed, though there have been exceptions. This is a list of the twelve different content creators in the program who released promotional videos of the tester build provided.įor example, Saffron City was first shown in a Content Creator video, along with a number of items, including the Fire Flower, Yellow Shell, and Flipper. Each has their name listed in the credits of SSF2 under the section labeled "Content Creator Program Members". SSF2 Tester Program for SSF2 1.2, And more channel updates! Note that some of these creators have since changed their names and are listed as they were known when they contributed. The video used to announce the "Tester Program" for Beta 1.2. Shortly after Super Smash Con 2018, a similar tester program to the previous Content Creators Program was started for the forthcoming Beta 1.2 release. The program was announced by Bowler on Augand allowed selected content creators to play a build of the game featuring much of the content showcased at the event, which later updated to include content showcased at Super Smash Con 2019. Members included previous members Bowler, IntroSpecktive, Ninkendo, and Sherwood, as well as several new ones including Linklight, Subpar, xSOLx Shady, Ya Dad, and Gonzalo ZeRo Barrios. The program lasted until the demo's release date on February 14, 2020, which had been announced the previous week by ZeRo. Like with the previous program, most videos consisted mainly of gameplay and showcases for previously announced content rather than reveals for new content. However, new content was still shown for the first time in several videos, such as character balancing and animation updates, the Trophy Stand item, and various costumes not present at Super Smash Con 2019.The year 2021 has (finally) arrived, and looking back we had a busy past year with the SSF2 Rotation Release Cycle and the announcement of Fraymakers! After a year like that many of you may be wondering what’s in store for this year at McLeodGaming. Many of you probably already know that the end of Flash Player support arrived today, with the full transition to being globally disabled arriving on January 12th, 2021. As the creators of one of the most ambitious Flash-based projects on the internet, it pains us greatly to see it go. Flash is what allowed SSF2 to blossom into the ultimate Smash tribute that you see today, and it’s also what put McLeodGaming on the path to being a real independent game studio in the early 2000s. We may never see a technology exactly quite like Flash again in the future, and we think it’s important to look back and appreciate how it allowed all sorts of creative individuals to express themselves, despite all of the negative press. On the bright side, a project called Ruffle has been underway for quite some time to emulate the Flash Player in-browser without requiring a plugin. It’s made great strides supporting tons of games from the ActionScript 2.0 days, including an almost fully-functional Super Smash Flash 1 (which we’ve enabled a toggle for on the Super Smash Flash home site, go check it out!). It may be some time before we see SSF2 supported since the game is built in ActionScript 3.0, but in the meantime you can always download the game to play on your desktop using Adobe AIR in place of the Flash Player.
